5 Steps To Securing The Perfect Night’s Sleep

As a nation we are all guilty of overworking ourselves one way or another, and quite often it’s our sleeping pattern which takes the full brunt, as we try to justify juggling yet another task whilst living the fast life on an exhausted temperament.
If I’ve had a long day at work, as soon as I get home I become fixated with my phone up until the second I turn my bedside lamp off. It’s a terrible habit most of us have today which stems from constant social media engagement, trying to find a balance between maintaining a social life and heavy work schedule, along with the ultimate struggle of switching off.
Last year 1 third of UK adults confessed to checking their smartphones in the middle of the night, along with 10% of adults who admitted to looking at their phone immediately before they went to sleep. (www.bloomberg.com) With the average recommended amount of sleep falling between 8 - 9 hours per night, how many of us are really achieving the correct amount?
To help rescue panda eyes and sleep deprived energy levels for the morning ahead, we’ve put together the ultimate 5 step plan to securing the perfect night’s sleep.
Step 1 - Relax Your Mind Enter a screen - free zone by locking your phone away for the night, preferably 2 hours before you go to sleep along with any other electronic devices such as your TV or laptop. This will enable your mind to slowly shut down which will make it easier for you to drift off. Refresh your bedding with freshly laundered sheets, covers and pillowcases before spraying your bed linen and room generously with Arran Sense Of Scotland’s Glen Iorsa Lavender And Spearmint Calming Mist, £9. I always find this instantly relaxes my mind whilst creating a peaceful tranquil atmosphere.
Step 2 - Renew Your Skin
Exfoliate your body with REN’s Body Moroccan Rose Otto Sugar Body Polish, £33 which will help to detoxify and relax your skin, whilst buffing away dead skin cells for smoother more supple appearance.
Step 3 - Invigorate Your Mind Run a hot bath with Chanel No 5 The Foaming Bath, £40 to create the ultimate serene setting. Adding in luxury bath salts and bath oils will also encourage your mind to naturally unwind, we love Burt's Bees Therapeutic Bath Crystals, £10.79 and Aromatherapy Associates De - Stress Mind Bath and Shower Oil, £45. Once your bath is set, immerse yourself into the bubbles and lie back to fully embrace the aromatic benefits.
Step 4 - Feed Your Skin Apply Liz Earle’s Superskin Overnight Mask, £42 to restore your skin's hydration levels and increase luminosity for the morning. Enriched with Persian Silk Tree, Pomegranate Flower, Rosehip and Cranberry Seed Oils this mask will not only work to lock in moisture whilst you sleep, but also guarantee a more brighter rejuvenated appearance for the morning.
Step 5 - Pamper Your Eyes Finally for an extra ounce of comfort and hydration we highly recommend placing on a pair of Elemis’s Pro-collagen Hydra-gel Eye Masks, £47.50 to soothe and refresh your peepers for ultimate tranquility. You will no doubt feel utterly relaxed by now and ready to drift off to the perfect night’s sleep, remember to keep your phone and other electronic devices locked away until the following morning.
