6 Incredible Mother's Day Makeup Tips For Mature Skin
Posted by Sarah Brock in Makeup, Skin Care, Experts
With Mother's Day coming up next week, many mothers and daughters are planning spa weekends, afternoon tea and other days out to celebrate the day. To help you look your best as a mother, I've pulled together 6 of my favourite beauty tips to create the perfect makeup look on more mature skin, specially for Mother's Day:
Create The Perfect Canvas For Your Makeup:
Good skincare is so important for an ageing skin - this makes the skin look younger and stops skin from getting dehydrated during the day (which then makes your skin look older). I really do believe that it is worth investing more money in good skincare, as you really do get what you pay for. Apply a moisturiser which makes your skin look plump, youthful and also smoothes out any fine lines - the Esteé Lauder Revitalising Supreme Global Anti-Ageing Cream makes skin look incredible before you even start applying makeup. Next, on top of that, apply a small amount of primer that contains silicone - not only will this help makeup last longer, it will also smooth out any fine lines and wrinkles - the Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer is excellent.

Avoid Thick, Heavy Foundations:
If you want your skin to look flawless (don't we all), younger and cover any imperfections such as redness, broken veins, don't reach for a heavy duty foundation (which you may think is the best as it will cover everything) - all this will do will make your skin look older. This is the most important part of your makeup - get this right and everything else will look great and again, this is one area that I do believe in investing a little more if you can. Remember, foundation isn't designed to cover all of your imperfections, it is designed to even out your skin tone, then you need a great concealer to cover under eye circles and any imperfections on the face. If all your skin needs is a tinted moisturiser, opt for the Chanel CC Cream Complete Correction which takes years off your skin or if you need more of a medium to full coverage foundation, treat yourself to a product I adore - the Crème de la Mer Soft Fluid Longwear Foundation. One of my favourite concealers of all time for under eyes and other areas of imperfections (apply after foundation) is the Bareminerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer.
Go Easy On The Powder:
Powder is essential to set your makeup and make it last longer, but if you are too heavy handed and apply too much, this is going to make your skin look YEARS older. Only apply a small amount where you need too - dust down the t-zone and also a little on your eyelids to prevent your eyeshadow from creasing. Choose a powder which is finely milled, which gives a beautiful finish to the skin. 2 powders I always have in my pro kit are the Daniel Sandler Invisible Blotting Pressed Powder and the Chantecaille HD Perfecting Powder.
Choose Cream Blush Over Powder Blush:
As we age, we can loose the healthy glow that we had when we were younger and there is no doubt that blush really does make us look healthy and younger again. Pale or tan skins look fabulous with a pretty pink or peach blush on the apple of the cheeks and I cannot recommend a cream blush rather than a powder blush enough, as it adds a dewy look to the skin rather than powder, which can make skin look older. My go-to cream blushers for more mature skin are the Clarins Cream Blush and the Tom Ford Cream Cheek Colour.
For Eyes, Less Is More:
The great news is that you can stop having to apply lots of different eyeshadows at once - on a more mature eye, less is definitely more! The quickest way to create a younger, bigger looking eye is to first choose 2 natural toned eyeshadows - a lighter one for the browbone and one for on the eyelid which ideally will be a shade darker. Another top tip is to avoid too much shimmer or sparkle, as this will sit in lines/ wrinkles making the eyes look older. If you love powder eyeshadows, Clinique All About Shadow Duos are fantastic or if you love to apply with your fingers and love the ease of a cream, the Rosie For Autograph Cream Eyeshadow Sticks are fabulous. Remember to always use more eyeliner and mascara on the top lashline rather than on the bottom (makes the eye look more lifted) and no matter what eyeliner colour you prefer, my eye pencils of choice for a more mature eyes are the Laura Geller Inkcredible Waterpood Gel Eyeliner Pencils as they are so easy to apply and don't move all day.
Top Tips For Lips:
As our lips can thin as we age, I like a more mature lip to look plump and full. Try to stay away from really bright colours as this can sometimes look dated. To get beautiful, young looking lips, define your lip line with a pencil and apply a modern looking colour which looks like your own lips but better. Studio 10 have a great duo which is perfect for day-to-day wear, the Studio 10 Age Reverse Perfecting Lip Liner followed by the Studio 10 Longlast Velvet Liquid Lips in Blossom looks fabulous. I understand that some ladies like a brighter lip and don't feel themselves without a stronger lip colour - if that's you, go for it! Just make sure you are wearing a lipstick which really plumps and beautifies your lips (definitely not a matte shade) - Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipsticks come in a huge range of shades and will moisturise lips for hours.
Whatever look you go for this Mother's Day, follow one of these 6 beauty tips for more mature makeup looks and you'll look fabulous.
