How to Get the Perfect Pout
Posted by Anna Clarke in Makeup
Fuller lips are something we would all love to have. That perfect pout a la Kylie Jenner or Angelina Jolie. While some of us are lucky enough to be blessed with naturally large, full lips, others are not so lucky. The good news is we do not have to brave going under the knife to get those luscious lips we all long for! There are a number of things we can do naturally to give the illusion of fuller looking lips. Here are a few handy tips and tricks to make your lips look bigger the natural way.
First of all, make sure you regularly exfoliate and moisturise the lips. This will help promote circulation and keep the lips hydrated as well as providing a temporary ‘plump’ and fullness to the lips. Top with your favorite lip balm. We love Aesop's Rosehip Seed Lip Cream.
Secondly, use a lip liner in a similar shade to your natural lip colour (or just a little darker). The Edward Bess Defining Lip Liner is a perfect universal lip liner for all skin tones. When applying lip liner just outside the lip line it helps create larger looking lips. Just ensure you smudge any harsh lines or edges and then apply a lipstick and/or lip gloss on top.
A third tip is to make sure you are wearing light coloured lipsticks. This may initially come as a surprise but when you think about it it makes sense - dark clothes can make you look slimmer, so dark lipstick can make your lips look smaller. Instead go for peachy shades, which are the most flattering for all skin types.
Next, make sure you wear lip gloss. Lip gloss is light-reflecting so it makes the lips look shiny and full. Again, ensure you go for a light rather than a dark shade. If you are not a fan of lip gloss, try applying a shimmery blush or eyeshadow to the middle of the top and bottom lips. When pressed onto lipstick, the shimmery particles highlight the lips and give the illusion of more volumised lips.
Another little trick you can try to make your lips look bigger is to apply a tiny bit of white eye pencil or pale concealer to the cupids bow, just above the lips. This works as a luminizer, brightening the skin around the lips and giving an almost 3D effect that makes the lips stand out.
Finally, apply and blend a small amount of soft brown eye pencil to just below your lower lip. This does sound strange but it works because it helps to create a shadow underneath the lips, giving the illusion of bigger lips.
