A good liquid eyeliner will be waterproof. Waterproof eyeliners are a busy girl's best friend, especially in summer (no one likes a melting face) and also when you have no time to switch up your look from day to night. So if long lasting makeup is your style, be sure to invest in a couple of waterproof eyeliners. There is nothing as cool as wearing a good liquid eyeliner. It was invented in the 60s as a way to express the reform in culture, so make like Audrey Hepburn and wear yours with a flick. But, how to apply liquid eyeliner? And just as important, how to do winged eyeliner?

Whether or not you tend to have oily eyelids, we really recommend you start with an eyeshadow primer on the lids at this time of year. It is a multi-tasking product that will give your waterproof eyeliners staying power. Try a little something like the Stila All Day Liquid Eyeshadow Primer for maximum impact.

Also, put down the spoons and the tape! You will not need either for a cateye. The wing of your eyeliner is simply an extension of your lower lash line but if you still feel like you need a hand, the best thing to carry in your makeup bag is a a long cotton bud.

Pull the skin taut from the side of your eye and start drawing thin dashes along the upper lash line, stopping where your eyelashes do. The thinner the line you start with, the more room you allow for errors. Let go of your skin and fill in those dashes. Look straight ahead into a mirror and draw dashes again above the first line, this time following the natural curve of your eye.

Next, place the end of the cotton bud against the outer corner of your nose and outer corner of your eye, use this as a guideline to draw a thin flick as long as you like. All that is left is a final line connecting the end of the flick back to the eyeliner you drew previously - like a triangle. Fill in the triangle and repeat on the other eye. Use the cotton bud and a little oil or eye makeup remover to neaten up any mistakes and finish your eyes with lashings of mascara.

The less you think about perfecting your eyeliner, the better. Alexa Chung is very freehand with her signature catflick and she looks great everytime. Waterproof eyeliners are a playful way to wear your makeup in the heat, all that is left is a little blush and some lippy. That there, is long lasting makeup in the style of another British icon, Adele.
