The Best Full Coverage Foundations For Every Skin Type
Posted by Laura Rose in Makeup
If you’re like me and won’t stand for anything less than medium coverage when it comes to foundation, then you know what a struggle it is to find a good one. Will it work with my skin type? Is it going to last all day? Am I going to end up with cake face? All valid questions, and I have the answers. Below are my top 7 full coverage foundations for every skin type.
Oily - No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation
As someone with very oily skin, I know how annoying it is trying to get a full coverage foundation to last all day. That’s why I was so happy when I found the No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation from Boots. It’s been my trusted foundation for years now and even though I like trying out new releases, I always go back to this one. Partly because it is so inexpensive, but also because I know it works with my very oily skin and actually lasts all day with just one powder touch up at lunchtime. It doesn’t settle into my pores or smile lines either. The only downside is that there are only 14 shades available. I buy Calico which is the lightest they offer, but during the winter that can even be too dark for me. It’s the same at the other end of the spectrum with only 3 shades suitable for women of colour.

Dry - Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
Matte foundations are usually off-limits for people that have dry skin as most are designed to keep oil under wraps, meaning they can often look flat and cakey when applied to drier skin types. I have found the exception! Nars’ All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is perfect for drier skin as the lightness of it allows it to blend flawlessly, meaning there's zero dryness. Despite the word ‘weightless’ in its title it still has a surprisingly good coverage and is extremely buildable. And to top it all off it wears great throughout the day. What more could you want?

Combination - Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation
Maybe the hardest skin concern to cater for when it comes to foundation is combination. There are so many things to take into account so the formula has to be just right. The best foundation I’ve personally come across from talking to lots of people with combination skin is Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation. It has a full coverage formula that covers redness and dark circles, brightens dull and tired skin, and controls oils while not accentuating dry patches. It’s also packed with lots of fancy anti-aging ingredients like Hyaluronic Filling Spheres and Supercharged Vitamin C. So in short, it’s a pretty good all-rounder!

Normal - Jouer Essential High Coverage Creme Foundation
For all you lucky devils out there that have a normal skin type, you can pretty much have your pick with foundations. But even if you don’t have any particular skin concerns the foundation still needs to sit nicely and last all day. I suggest using Jouer’s Essential High Coverage Creme Foundation. And when I say high coverage, I mean high coverage! This stuff could cover up all your life problems it’s so pigmented! A little goes a long way so don’t get overexcited. It dries down to a beautiful matte finish and really does last all day!

Acne Prone - VICHY Laboratoires Dermablend 3D Foundation
Dealing with acne is hard enough without having to worry about if your foundation is going to stay on. You’re in two minds when it comes to makeup; you want to cover up all the redness and breakouts but you also want to allow your skin to breath. Enter Vichy’s Dermablend 3D Foundation. It’s approved by dermatologists and contains Salicylic Acid which helps fight acne by dissolving the dead skin cells that clog pores and causes spots. It won’t treat already existing acne, but it will help to prevent new ones developing. It dries down to a soft, velvety matte finish and helps to control oils throughout the day. It’s also amazing at covering redness and uneven skin texture caused by acne scarring. Sound too good to be true? It is. It only comes in 5 shades (rolls eyes).
